Barnhaven Primroses

Hello Fellow Gardeners

Someone must have told the weather gods that we’re about to begin pollinating – hail, storms, north winds …oh well, on with the thermals! The nursery is looking unusually clean and tidy as we’ve just had our Open Weekend. Tunnels in full bloom, interesting gardening conversations, mulled wine and hot chocolate all helped  to lift the spirits. The day before, a French TV crew spent the day filming auriculas and acaulis and (the most difficult bit) interviewing us.

It’s also time to get on with some more sowing. Must take precautions against mice, as last year they freely helped themselves to seed from the trays before they germinated, leaving a certain number of gaps in our production. We always promise ourselves to sow early, so that the seeds germinate before the weather gets too warm when it’s more difficult to keep the trays damp, but we often end up staggering the sowings right up to the end of May.
